Montage Summary

Here is a montage from the movie Scarface.



Montages are used by directors to evoke a certain emotion from the viewer. The order, the length, and the arrangement of the shots are extremely important in determining the mood of the montage. A viewer can feel differently about a certain shot depending on the shots that came before it and shots that are shown after.

The Last Laugh December 23 1924 F.W. Murnau What makes this film fit into the German Expressionism movement is its technical work. It used the dolly shot, which was new at the time. The film seemed to be a reaction against the sensationalism of Dr. Caligari and the films it inspired.
