Murnau This film fit into the German Expressionism movement by having most of its shots be filmed on location, which gave the film a realistic feeling despite being about being a non-existent creature. The Last Laugh December 23 1924 F.W. Murnau What makes this film fit into the German Expressionism movement is its technical work. It used the dolly shot, which was new at the time. The film seemed to be a reaction against the sensationalism of Dr. Caligari and the films it inspired.
